For years I worked on cars out of a small shed, outside or at friends garages. I finally had enough of that and planned to build my own custom garage. The original plan was to build a 24'X32' garage but as I was digging out the hillside, I found a boulder that was way too big for my bobcat to even budge. Because of that, I had to shorten it to 30' deep. I just wanted a garage that was big enough to comfortably work on one car at a time. I still had my old garage/shed that's big enough to park or store another car in which is where my Pace car sits now.

The pic below shows what I had to dig out at the end of my driveway to make room for the garage. Right behind my friend pictured below is where I hit that boulder. The guy pictured below is a friend of mine who is a General Contractor and he helped me layout and pour the footings and also helped with some technical expertise in some of the construction as well as loaning me some tools as needed. Thanks Shayne! If you ever need any major work done around your house or business, let me know and I'll give you his info. He does EXCELLENT work and takes a lot of pride in everything he does. That's something that you don't see too often anymore.

We dug the footers about 24" wide and 18" deep and reinforced it with rebar. This garage shouldn't move.

You can see the batter boards and string (set w/a contractors level) we used to make sure that everything was 100% level and square. We roughed up the concrete with a rake to give the mortar something to bond to for the first layer of blocks. You can also see the edge of a retaining wall that me, Shayne and my stepdad built that will tie into the garage. We finished this wall at about 2:00 O'clock in the morning. It was the middle of the summer and very hot. These blocks weigh 70lbs EACH and they are all filled with rock to stabilize the wall.
